White Papers

White papers provide relatively concise and focused information about topics directly of interest to the reader.
Three series of white papers are offered: DR²IVE™ White Paper Series, Core Competency White Paper Series, and Industry Segment White Paper Series.
DR²IVE™ Papers
White papers support overall strategy and processes associated with DR²IVE™. Papers that cover the five core processes of DR²IVE™ are provided, as well as overview, comparison, and implementation documents.
DR²IVE™ Overview, 120150: The acronym DR²IVE™ stands for Developing Robust Roadmaps Integrating Value Enterprises. DR²IVE™ consists of five core processes DESIGN, SCORE, AUDIT, ROADMAP, and ROBUST. This overview discusses the benefits of DR²IVE™. Of particular importance is the discussion of the return on investment from a portfolio of improvement projects. The Efficient Frontier is the optimal portfolio of projects that an organization can select based on its current information and constraining resources. This overview explains how the Efficient Frontier can be expanded using DR²IVE™.
DESIGN Process, 120151: The DESIGN Process is the first of five processes within DR²IVE™. The DESIGN Process has six phases based on the acronym DESIGN. The six phases are as follows: Define, Explore, Select, Involve, Gauge and Negotiate. In the Define Phase, the individual selected as the DR²IVE™ Initiative Champion defines the initial model and desired engagements internally and externally, an initial DR²IVE™ Model that best fits their organization’s needs, and identifies other organizations within the enterprise that could be collaborators. In addition, the Champion decides which external organizations to collaborate with later in the ROBUST Process. In the Negotiate Phase, Collaboration Charters are created for multiple organization engagements that summarize the type of engagement, resource commitments, engagement milestone schedule, project return sharing guidelines, and authorizations from the corresponding Champions.
SCORE Process, 120152: The SCORE Process is designed to assess organizations on one or more DR²IVE™ World-Class Management Step Charts. Each chart is analyzed independently from the others in separate engagements with independent teams of managers. Actual scoring of the attributes in a given chart is done by one person, a DRIVER. After scoring, a group of Reviewers rates the scores given to the attributes. The key result is a Chart Report for each chart the organization had selected in the DESIGN Process. The Chart Reports are combined together to make one large report for the organization called the SCORE Report. The acronym SCORE corresponds to the five phases of the SCORE Process: Score, Consensus, Optimize, Review, and Engage, which are discussed in detail.
AUDIT Process, 120153: The AUDIT Process is used to officially register the management capability of organizations as World-Class, Proactive, Mechanical or Clerical. Once completed, the organization will be able to declare their DR²IVE™ Score as official. The organization will also be able to access comparison data and advertise their registration using a Roadmaps InstituteTM Registration Seal. The AUDIT Process has the following phases: Analyze, Understand, Discover, Integrate, and Transfer. Each phase is discussed in detail.
ROADMAP Process, 120154: The ROADMAP Process is selected by organizations to create an Enterprise Roadmap. The ROADMAP Process leverages the Score Report of multiple divisions or business units within the enterprise to reveal opportunities for collaboration. The opportunities are then converted into tangible projects. The projects are interlinked and networked to form the Enterprise Roadmap. Key features of the ROADMAP Process are: opportunity identification of capability strengths (high Attribute Capability Scores) of one organization with the priority needs (high Priority Scores) of others, discussions to determine projects, project selection and logging, network (roadmap) development and milestone planning. The ROADMAP Process has the following phases: Review, Opportunity, Agree, Develop, Milestone, Authorize and Proceed. Each phase is discussed in detail.
ROBUST Process, 120155: The ROBUST Process enables enterprises and their alliances to reach the level of collaboration needed to achieve Robust Roadmaps™. Robust Roadmaps™ are strategic plans developed collaboratively by two or more alliance organizations that integrate the organizations through projects selected against world-class capabilities. In the ROBUST Process, two or more alliance organizations come together to discover opportunities that can be converted into collaborative projects. The network of collaborative projects forms the key output of the ROBUST Process called an Alliance Roadmap. Key features of the ROBUST Process are as follows: opportunity identification, collaborative discussions, value estimation, charter development, project selection, brokering and agreement, charter archiving, roadmap unification, roadmap execution, and roadmap tracking. The ROBUST Process has the following phases: Review, Opportunity, Agree, Develop, Milestone, Authorize and Proceed. Each phase is addressed in detail.
